One of the best things about hunting and the outdoors is being able to share the moments with everyone. The most popular way to do that is through capturing these moments on your camera. Well the action cameras that are available today are small and take amazing videos and pictures. But how do you capture that perfect shot? I recently had the opportunity to review the GoPro pole from Xshot and it didn't disappoint. The Xshot Pro Pole for GoPro and All Cameras allows you to use more options than just a GoPro.

The first thing I was asked from my wife when it showed up at my door, "Did you really order a selfie stick?" Personally I'm not a big "selfie" taker but I did use the pole on various occasions while I was hunting. I have to say that it is very compact, easy to use, and very light.

Most of the time I am usually out hunting or fishing by myself which usually means some sort of self-filming. This makes it difficult sometimes to take a picture of the animal or fish that I was lucky enough to shoot or catch. On most occasions though I am usually taking scenery pictures (usually my luck). For the purpose of my blog and my readers, I do need to take some shots of me either sitting a stand or fishing the bank. That's where the GoPro pole from Xshot comes into play and works wonders.

So you're probably wondering by now what could be so cool about an extending camera arm fro your GoPro. Well here are some specs from the Xshot website to fill you in:

  • Heavy-duty 360° metal ball head with 2 interchangeable mounts
  • Fits GoPro, Contour and Sony Action Cam POV cameras
  • Premium mounting made from aircraft-grade aluminum
  • Secure wrist strap and new sports grip
  • Very compact and light: closes to 7 inches (extends up to 32")
  • Great for camera stabilization while moving
  • A perfect tool for snowboarders, paragliders, surfers, hikers...Hunters, Anglers, etc.

So as you can see, it is very compact and very versatile. As an avid hunter, I like to hike into my area with as little as possible and as light as possible. The GoPro pole is light-weight enough you won't even know it is there, weighs in at about 7oz. It also has a very nice rubber handle that makes it easy to hold onto. I took out in the rain and snow without it slipping out of my hands. This is huge especially for anglers who use it on the water and want to take some underwater shots.

Here are some pictures of setting it up with a GoPro and changing the mount:

The series of pictures above are self explanatory but attaching the GoPro is very simple and easy.

Removing GoPro Mount

In the first picture you can see a screw in the middle, use the allen wrench to unscrew it (hold onto this screw and keep it with the GoPro Mount), and then you'll notice in the last picture the two holes on both sides of where the screw was. This is important to align with the universal tripod mount as you can see below.

As mentioned you can see the two nubs on either side of the screw (this screw is attached to the mount already) and you start by placing the allen wrench in the top of the mount to begin tightening the screw. Then as you are tightening it down you need to make sure those two nubs on the mount line up with the two holes on the pole. This secures the mount so it doesn't slip around. Overall it is very quick and easy to switch between the two.

PROS:
  1. Compact and Lightweight - This makes it easy to take with you anywhere without weighing you down. Lightweight for any outdoors person is a big selling point.
  2. 360 Degree Ball Head - This allows you to quickly adjust the angle to get the best shot. Whether its getting the best angle on that selfie or capturing the release of the trophy rainbow trout you just fought.
  3. Non-Slip Rubber Grip - This has been a life-saver. When using the Xshot on the river or out in the field, it's been easy to hold onto with the different weather conditions I've been in.
  4. Interchangeable Mounts - Not everyone uses a GoPro and some use multiple different styles of cameras. This makes it easy to quickly change between the two. On a positive note as well, if you use the GoPro tripod mount attachment from GoPro then all you need to keep on the pole would be the tripod mount.
  5. It Stays in Place - The pole actually stays where you want it to and the camera won't start tilting with the 360 degree ball head. You put it in position, tighten the thumb screw and it stays.
CONS: (Not Many)
  1. Color - I know, this is me just being picky, but for what I use it for while hunting, having a bright orange thumb screw and a chromed out silver pole sticking out there, it makes it harder to not spook the game. They have other products that have a black pole which I think would be perfect for this model as well.

Overall I have to say that this is a fun addition to the GoPro. If you use a camera to film yourself hunt or fish, I would highly recommend checking these out. They are comparable with any camera and can make your filming adventure a lot easier.
